Start the music, place your pen or pencil onto the paper and when you are ready close your eyes. Try to imagine what the music might look like. Begin to move your hand in time with the music. Can you make markings according to the rhythm and shapes of the music? Don’t worry about making anything specific, abstract is fine!
The idea of this exercise is to really listen to the music and express your thoughts, feelings and its impact on you in different ways. For each piece of music, you may want to use a different piece of paper or continue on the same page, its completely up to you. Try to keep your eyes closed as you draw but do whatever feels comfortable for you.
When you have finished drawing and listening open your eyes and notice how your images make you feel. Do the markings you have made represent the music that you listened to? Are there any parts of the drawing that you like? Or does it feel like a random collection of scribbles?
Now try the exercise again but with your eyes open. Do you feel more comfortable when you can see what you are doing? Notice how the music makes you feel now that your eyes are open. Once you have finished listening and drawing, reflect again on how the images make you feel.
